
Defensive Struggle Goes To Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - The Lonestar West Division champion Amarillo Venom handed the Arkansas Diamonds their first road loss of the season Saturday night, winning 35-20.
Arkansas' quarterback Willie Copeland led the offense to a quick score, the only touchdown of the first quarter. Quarterback Julian Reese attempted a touchdown, but fumbled at the one-yard line. Arkansas 7, Amarillo 0.
Following a Brandon Jenkins sack, Julian Reese gave Amarillo their first points of the game with a 3-yard rush (his fifth of the season). The Venom allowed the Diamonds only a field goal, while the defense collected their first safety of the season. Wide receiver Carl Johnson caught his seventh receiving touchdown of the season, as Amarillo led 15-10 at the half.
Amarillo's kicker Darren McCaleb scored all the points for the Venom in the third quarter with a season long field goal of 42-yards. Arkansas wide receiver Bradley Chavez caught a pass for a 37-yard touchdown. Amarillo 21, Arkansas 20.
In the fourth quarter, linebacker Kyle Wilson and defensive lineman Brandon Jenkins led the Venom defense with a sack each (team total 16). Amarillo defense held the Diamonds to a scoreless quarter while, running back Dontrell Moore collected two touchdowns, guiding the Venom to a 9-1 record. A final score, Amarillo 35, Arkansas 20.
The Venom will begin a two-game road trip beginning in Abilene May 29th at 7:05pm CST. Fans may catch Saturday's action beginning at 6:55pm CST on 1440 AM ESPN Radio or on B2 Networks.
