Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Christian Marti has been assigned by the Flyers from the Leigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL to the Royals.
Marti (6'3/211) (22), who hails from Bulach, Switzerland, is in his first year of North American pro. Marti, who was signed to an entry level contract by the Flyers last May, has recorded one assist in six games with the Phantoms this season. He played the last two seasons in the Swiss-A league with Geneve-Servette, who captured the Spengler Cup in 2013 and 2014. Prior to turning pro, Marti played one season in the Quebec Major Junior League with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, where he registered fourteen points (5g-9a) and thirty-five penalty minutes in forty-six regular season games. Marti also had an extensive career in the European junior and international ranks, earning two stints with the Swiss National Team in the U-20 World Junior Championships.
The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, January 8, 2016 @ 7:00 pm) when the team will face the Toledo Walleye for the first time this year at Santander Arena in Reading.
