Tulsa Drillers News Release
The San Antonio Missions used a late inning rally to beat the Tulsa Drillers 3-2 Sunday night. The Drillers took an early lead, but couldn't hold on as they saw the Missions score three unanswered runs.
San Antonio scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cedric Hunter hit a fly ball to centerfield that looked routine, but got caught in the wind and fell to the ground for a double. Mitch Canham's single scored Hunter and gave the Missions the victory.
San Antonio closer Evan Scribner worked a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 14th save of the season.
The Drillers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Darin Holcomb led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by pitcher Samuel Deduno. Anthony Jackson's single put runners on the corners before Danny Sandoval's single plated Holcomb.
Michael McKenry's two-out single with the bases loaded scored Jackson, but Sandoval was thrown out at home by right fielder Brian Joynt to end the Drillers threat.
The Missions responded in the bottom of the fifth after Tulsa reliever Andy Graham walked Luis Durango. Durango eventually scored on a single by Logan Forsythe that cut the Drillers lead to 2-1.
In the sixth, San Antonio's Hunter singled and then scored on a double by Michael Collins that tied the game at 2-2.
San Antonio reliever Mike DeMark (1-2) picked up the win after throwing one scoreless relief inning.
Austin Chambliss (1-2) took the loss for the Drillers after giving up one run on two hits in 1 and 2/3 innings of relief work.
Tulsa starter Samuel Deduno retired the first seven batters in a row and didn't allow a base runner until walking Jesus Lopez in the third inning. The Missions first hit of the game came in the bottom of the fourth with two outs.
Deduno allowed two hits in four scoreless innings of work with two strikeouts and three walks and was relieved by Andy Graham before the fifth inning after Deduno reached his pitch limit.
Graham gave up two runs on three hits in two innings of relief work.
The Drillers will continue their series with the Missions on Monday night. Jhoulys Chacin (6-6, 3.35 ERA) will take the mound for the Drillers against the Missions Cory Luebke (1-0, 1.80 ERA). First pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.
