Defender Matt Bobo Re-United with Ex-Teammates

(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team announced today that defender Matt Bobo has been added to the squad for the 2003 season. The 26-year old Bobo, who has spent the past two seasons in Milwaukee, becomes the sixth ex-Rampage player to join Wave United following the earlier acquisitions of Jeremy Aldrich, Digital Takawira, Dennis Fadeski, Steve Bernal, and Angel Rivillo.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, the 6-1, 180 lb. Bobo was a key contributor to the Rampage's championship run last season. The former Eastern Illinois University star was one of Milwaukee's primary defenders, finishing seventh on the club in minutes played and eighth on the team's scoring list (seven points) during the regular season. Bobo also played an instrumental part in the Rampage's playoff success, scoring both goals, including the overtime game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Vancouver that clinched the Western Conference title. (The Rampage went on to defeat the Richmond Kickers to claim last year's championship.)
"Matt Bobo brings an outstanding physical presence to our back line," said Wave United Coach Art Kramer. "He is one of the top man-markers in the game, and is extremely dangerous in the air coming forward on set plays."
Wave United opens its first A-League season on Friday, May 16, 7:05 PM when it hosts the Minnesota Thunder at Uihlein Soccer Park. Art Kramer's team will also host the defending MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition match on Sunday, May 18, 4:05 PM at Uihlein.
