DeBerg Sets Date For First Tryout

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds, and first-year Head Coach Steve DeBerg, have scheduled a free agent tryout for December 8, 2003. The event will be the first for the 17-year NFL signal-caller and is open to anyone interested in becoming a part of the Firebirds for the 2004 Arena Football League season.
The tryout will take place at The SportZone, the official training facility of the Firebirds, located at 6601 Coffman Road in Indianapolis. Registration begins promptly at 8:00 AM with the start of the tryout at 9:00 AM.. All participants will be tested in 40 & 20 yard dash, short shuttle, standing broad jump and individual one on one drills. Several players in team history have been found at similar open tryouts, including former AFL Ironman of the Year FB/LB Chad Dukes.
DeBerg, who conducts camps for quarterbacks in Florida throughout the summer, will get his first chance to evaluate talent in an indoor, arena football setting along with his assistant coaches. DeBerg, the fourth head coach in Firebirds team history, has helped tutor current NFL quarterbacks Byron Leftwich (Jacksonville), Quincy Carter (Dallas) and Rex Grossman (Chicago) among others.
All participants will be required to submit a $60 registration fee (no personal checks), which includes a t-shirt and a ticket to a future Indiana Firebirds home game.
