Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
Michael De Leon plated five runs and Wes Benjamin hurled six innings of one-run ball as Frisco secured a series victory over Corpus Christi with a 7-3 triumph before 11,844 students on Monday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
All seven of the RoughRiders' (14-30) runs were notched with two outs.
Alex Winkelman struck out the first two in the second before yielding back-to-back singles to Yanio Perez and Preston Beck. De Leon, out of the nine-hole, belted a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left for his first home run of the year.
De Leon was at it again in the fourth. Michael O'Neil reached via a bunt single and Beck followed with a flare into shallow left. Two outs later, De Leon cracked a base hit into right-center, plating a pair.
Benjamin (3-3) held the Hooks to two baserunners over the first four frames. Jamie Ritchie put Corpus Christi (25-19) on the board in the fifth with an RBI double into right-center.
The Frisco lefty struck out six against five hits and one walk to pick up his third consecutive win.
Framber Valdez relieved Winkelman (1-2) and retired six in a row before issuing back-to-back walks in the seventh. Juremi Profar cashed in the free passes with a double into the left-field alley.
Ritchie, who belted a two-run triple in the ninth, accounted for all three Hooks runs.
Randy Cesar notched a single in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to a Texas League best 14 games.
Josh Rojas, who opened the sixth with a knock, has hits in 11 consecutive contests.
The Hooks return to Whataburger Field for a six-game homestand, beginning Tuesday night vs. Springfield. Corpus Christi is slated to start lefty Ryan Hartman (3-1, 1.53) in the series opener. First pitch 7:05.
