Dayton Bulldogs News Release
Dayton, OH-- The Dayton Warbirds announced today the signing of the teams first three players for the NIFL expansion franchise. WR-Danta Greene, WR-Jonathan Cain, and K-Justin McClain are the first players signed and will compete at February's training camp for a spot on the final roster. "We are looking for exceptional athletes with high morals and good character and that is what we have found in these three players," said General Manager and Head Coach Chris MacKeown.
Danta Greene is a graduate of Springfield South High School in Springfield, Ohio, and the University of Toledo's all time leading receiver. He was also the 2001 MAC runner-up for Special Teams Player of the Year. "Danta is dangerously quick with soft hands. He can cause a lot of problems for defensive backs," said MacKeown.
Jon Cain gives the Warbirds some local flare, as he is a graduate of Dayton Dunbar High School and Wilmington College. Cain is a three time All-American and holds every major receiving record at Wilmington. Cain played for the now defunct Cincinnati Swarm of AF2 in 2002 for Coach MacKeown. "I have worked with Jon before and I know what I get with him. He is a hard worker and leaves it all on the field. That is all you can ask from anyone."
The leading candidate as the Warbirds kicker is Justin McClain, former kicker for the Ohio State Buckeyes who transferred and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. "When we set out to search for a kicker, I knew we didn't have to look much further than Justin. This kid is just on the edge of making it to the NFL" said MacKeown. McClain also went to the New York Dragons (AFL) training camp in 2004 and just missed making the team.
"I have met most of the players Chris is bringing to camp and I must say I am very pleased with the quality of the guys we are signing and the character these young men have shown. They truly are some of the best players I have had the privilege to meet," said Jeffrey A. Jodway, President of the Warbirds. "This is just the beginning. I can't wait to see who else Chris brings to the team," he added.
The Warbirds will also be holding their first open tryouts this Sunday the 24th at Gateway Sports Park in Dayton. For more information about the tryouts, sponsorships, and season tickets, please contact the Warbirds office at 937-427-9737 or visit their website at www.daytonwarbirds.com.
