The Dayton Demonz faced off against the Steel City Warriors on Friday night at Hara Arena looking to get back on the winning track after falling to Berkshire on Thursday evening.ÃÂ The hometown Demonz came into the game possessing the red hot Robert Vanwynsberghe and his team-leading 14 goals.ÃÂ Visiting Steel City, an expansion club in the Federal Hockey League, was led by forward Tom Tracy's 11 goals.ÃÂ
The Demonz got on the board 4:46 into the first period when forward Ahmed Mahfouz got one past Dalton McGrath from point blank range.ÃÂ Moments later, Mark Rivera scored his fourth of the year off an interception in the Steel City zone.ÃÂ Quickly, the Demonz led 2-0.ÃÂ
The snowball started rolling downhill seconds later when Vanwysberghe notched his 15th of the year from the left slot at 7:39.ÃÂ Before the initial stanza was over, Dayton added a fourth goal on a pass from Vanwynsberghe to Ahmed Mahfouz.ÃÂ The tally was his sixth of the season and gave the Demonz a 4-0 lead.
Steel City broke the shutout when Ryan Alves stole the puck from Demonz defenseman Len Pelletier and dished over to John Scully for the score.ÃÂ It came with 4:28 expired in the second.ÃÂ The defending champions continued the onslaught, however, when Dayton forward Cody Milligan flipped one over McGrath to get the cushion back to four at five to one.ÃÂ Dayton was in complete control, not only with a comfortable margin, but a 29-10 advantage in shots on goal.ÃÂ
A rebound in the crease led to the sixth goal of the evening for the home team when Jason Pietrasiak pushed one past the bewildered Steel City goal near the four minute mark of the second period.ÃÂ The 6-1 score held up as play headed to the final 20 minutes.
The Warriors recorded a second tally late in the third period on an unassisted goal by Scully, his second of the game.ÃÂ Cody Milligan responded less than a minute later for the Demonz with his second goal of the evening on a slap shot from the right circle.ÃÂ
The hometown Dayton club dominated this game in every facet against their overmatched foe.ÃÂ Shots on goal read a whopping 56 for the Demonz to a paltry 20 for the visitors from Steel City.ÃÂ The scoreboard told the story: Dayton 7 and Steel City 2.
