
Dayton Gems Shoot Down Quad City Mallards 7-4

DAYTON, OH - An exciting game rocked Hara Arena as the Dayton Gems beat the Quad City Mallards with a final score of 7-4.
Things started off rough as the Mallards scored a goal in the opening 20 seconds of the game, but Gems player A.J. MacLean tied up the game moments later helped by John Snowden and Tim Hartung, and within the first eight minutes of the game the Gems were up 2-1 with a goal from Snowden assisted by Hartung and Corey Couturier.
The Gems countered the Mallards' opening move with an excellent shot from Mike Vaskivuo aided by Captain Greg Labenski and Matt Szypura, giving the Gems their third point only 17 seconds in. Another couple minutes later came yet another powerful shot from Dayton, courtesy of Joe Van Culin assisted by Couturier and Preston Briggs. However, the Mallards soon pushed back, scoring two more goals in the middle of the second period. Snowden (with Hartung and Labenski) scored another goal to defend their lead, but the Mallards closed up the second period with another goal. The Gems remained on top with a two-point lead.
The Gems secured their lead with two goals from Snowden in the first four minutes of the game's final period. Tonight's game was riddled with action Dayton came out on top with the final total of 7-4. The Gems standings are 18/19/3/1.
The Gems hit the road on Wednesday to face the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7pm. Fans can listen live at www.daytongems.net.
The Dayton Gems are proud to be hosting Wright Patterson Night on Friday, January 29th when the Gems take on the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. In honor of Wright Patterson Air Force Base the team will be wearing special Air Force Camouflage jerseys. Immediately following the game an auction will be held where you can bid and have the jerseys right off the back of your favorite players.
All base employees, active duty andretired military will receive abuy one ticket get one ticket free discount. Game time is 7:30pm and many special tributes are planned for the evening.

Lefty McFadden tribute night is Saturday, February 6nd when the Gems take on the Port Huron Icehawks at 7:30pm. Local legends will be in attendance including: Tom Hamlin, Marc Katz and Bucky Albers.
All adult tickets only $10. Student and Childrens tickets $7. Groups are welcome and parking is free.
