DAYTON, Ohio (January 24, 2010) - John Snowden scored four goals and added one assist as the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to the host Dayton Gems 7-4 Sunday.

Chris Lipsett gave the Mallards the lead just 12 seconds into the game with a wrist shot from the right wing circle, only for Dayton rebound and move on top with a pair of early goals of its own. A.J. MacLean's long range goal evened the score at 3:28 of the first period. The Gems took the lead while on the power play when Snowden snapped the puck home from close range at the 7:02 mark.

A wild second period saw the Mallards and Gems combine for six goals. Just 17 seconds into the second, Mike Vaskivuo stretched the Dayton lead to 3-1 by driving the puck home from the left wing circle. In the wake of that goal, the Mallard replaced starting goaltender Kyle Jones with Jerad Kaufmann, who was beaten from the high slot by Joe VanCullin two minutes after entering the game. Suddenly down 4-1, the Mallards would bounce back to trim the gap to a single goal when Matt Cook buried a rebound at 8:19 and Chris Lipsett one timed home a power play goal from the slot at 11:40. Snowden's second goal- on a wrister from the left wing circle- would make it 5-3 at 16:54 only for the Mallards to once more cut the gap to one at 18:21 when Joel Gasper scored on a rebound.

Snowden would put the game away for the Gems by scoring twice in one minute and 29 seconds early in the third period. Snowden stretched the lead to 6-3 with a sharp angle goal at 2:06 of the third. After that goal Kaufmann came back in to replace Jones. The goaltending change made no difference to Snowden who fired in his fourth of the night from the right wing circle at 3:35 of the third.
