Dayton Dutch Lions News Release
WEST CARROLLTON, OH ...The Dayton Dutch Lions FC (2-6-2) travelled to LA to play the LA Galaxy ll (7-2-3) at Stubhub Center this evening. Despite creating a lot of opportunities for themselves, the Lions gave up too many goals in the first half and they were unable to bounce back from the deficit.
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC got off to a good start with good possession and offensive opportunities in their game with the LA Galaxy ll. Cameron Vickers made several runs down the right side and sent several crosses in, one found the head of Sebastian Thuriere but the shot went high.
Thuriere would be a key playmaker for the Lions in this matchup. Jesjua Angoy- Cruyff also challenged down the left side but was unable to capitalize. Despite playing well in the first minutes of the game, the LA Galaxy ll's Charles Rugg would run down the Lions right side in the ninth minute and cross into a waiting Bradford Jamieson IV who with a step would touch the ball with the outside of his left foot sending it to the back of the Dayton's goal. The Lions continued to press and make progress at the other end, but LA would again take the ball in the twenty fifth minute and pass into Jack McBean who would put LA up by two.
Again, the Lions would pass and make their way down the field only to let another goal in their net in the thirty seventh minute when a ball in from the right would deflect off a Dayton defender and wind up at McBean's feet and he easily put the ball into the Lions goal for his second of the night. LA turned on the pressure and in the forty second minute made it 4-0 when Rugg would take the ball in the middle and using his speed come down the right and shoot hard, the ball would skim off keeper Matt Williams fingertips and fly high into the goal. Finally in the forty sixth minute Jamieson iV would have his second goal of the night when a series of passes and a give and gp would lead him behind the Dayton defense with an easy pass in for the goal. At the half, the LA Galaxy ll would lead the Dayton Dutch Lions FC by a score of 5-0. The second half saw most of the possession go to the LA Galaxy ll, leaving the Dayton Dutch Lions chasing. The Lions did not give in however and continued trying to play their passing game. In the sixty second minute a beautiful series of one touch passes through the middle at pace saw Dayton's Taylor Bowlin with the opportunity for a cross, but the ball sailed high and off target. Dayton's Matt Williams, along with the defense was kept busy as the LA Galaxy ll continued to make runs and shoot. However, In the seventy fifth minute, it was Dayton's turn, a mistake by LA's defense gave Dayton's Aaron Schoenfeld a chance as he ran past taking the ball. LA's goalie, Cody Laurendi seeing Schoenfeld on his defenders back rushed out to help, but Schoenfeld would push through and pass the ball into the goal. The eighty fourth minute saw Dayton push forward again and some wonderful passing led to a shot that just went high. Good footwork in the eighty fifth by Eli Garner led to a shot for the Lions, but again the ball flew high. Dayton's Sebastian Thuriere was a force to reckon with and helped to set up Garner for some opportunities, but he could not find the back of the net. Despite some good play, the Dayton Dutch Lions FC would lose this game on the road to the LA Galaxy ll 5-1.
The Dayton Dutch Lions Men's Coach Sid van Druenen had this to say "We knew this was going to be a tough game seen that we played a game already this weekend but 5-0 at half was not something I expected.
We changed some things in the second half and were able to keep the ball out of our net and get a goal ourselves. I would like to give a word of praise to my guys for not giving up and giving everything they have over these two back to back games."
