Dayton Ohio, May 17 2014 - Three goals were not enough for the Dayton Dutch Lions FC as they got scored on five times against the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday afternoon, losing 5-3. The Lions came back from a 3-1 score the second half to tie it up 3-3, but it was Langley that made the Lions leave Harrisburg empty handed scoring two goals in the last ten minutes.

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC had a great start when in the 1st minute Eli Garner served the ball into the box finding Schoenfeld, who beat his opponent and shot the ball in the left corner for a 1-0 lead. After the goal Harrisburg took control of the game and it was forward Bauque who came inside from the right on a through ball beating Matt Williams in the 19th minute. Four minutes later it was Bauque who took a free kick around the box and his shot went through the wall and passed Williams in the low right corner for his second goal of the game. The Lions had the best chance to tie the game in the 42nd minute when a long ball from the right side found Brock Granger alone in front of goalkeeper Nick Noble at the second post. Granger hit the ball right in the face of the Harrisburg goalkeeper to keep the score 2-1 at halftime.

Right after the break Harrisburg got on the board again when Schaffer took a shot from close range after Silva served the ball in from the right side, making the score 3-1. Harrisburg had a chance to finish the game and make it 4-1 but Williams came up with a big save. The Lions started to put more pressure on the backline of Harrisburg, resulting in several opportunities. The first opportunity was for Garner when Schoenfeld headed a loose ball to his feet. Garner picked the ball up and dribbled inside from the right and had a shot from just outside the box that went under Noble for a 3-2 score in the 65th minute. The Lions kept the pressure on and four minutes later Thuriere had a run on the right sight crossing the ball into the box where Schoenfeld was in the right place to score the equalizer. Harrisburg had a great chance to go for the game winner but Langley and McLaughlin ran into each other going one on one with Williams. On the other side Broekhuizen and Garner had an opportunity as well to give the Lions the lead but Noble saved the shot from Broekhuizen from just outside the box and Garner shot the ball wide of the goal after a breakaway. In the 83rd minute the Dayton Dutch Lions FC had a chance to counterattack but the ball was lost in the midfield and Harrisburg put the ball behind the defense on the right side. With the marking not tight enough the ball was served into the box and Langley shot it in from close range to give Harrisburg a 4-3 lead. The Dayton Dutch Lions FC tried to put everybody up front in stoppage time but it was Langley that scored the best goal of the evening with a shot from 70 yards out over Williams.

Head Coach Sid van Druenen was disappointed after the loss: "this was a game where we switched good and bad moments way too often. Scoring early and coming back from a two goal deficit was great but there were too many turnovers and individual mistakes to get the win today. We should not lose a game where we score three goals and the guys know that. We have a week now to focus on our next game and I expect we will need to make some changes in our line up."

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC are returning to DOC Stadium this week where they play a friendly against the Columbus Crew on Tuesday at 7.00pm, and then Sacramento on Sunday at 7.00pm.
