Dayton Beats Watertown in Penalty Filled 3rd Period

(Dayton, Ohio) The Dayton Demonz and Watertown Privateers just don't like each other. Tonight's game saw Demonz defeat the Privateers 5-2 in a penalty filled 3rd period that seemed like the game would never end with numerous stoppages as the game seemed like more of a boxing match than a hockey. In the end both teams had a total of 112 penalty minutes called between the both them in the game.

The 1st period saw Watertown storm out and take a 2-1 lead, out shooting Dayton 14-7 in the period. Starting goaltender Jeff Rose came up with some key saves in the period to keep the Demonz in the game.

Ryan Devine gave Watertown the 1-0 lead early in the first period. Dayton tied the game 1-1 a few minutes later on Casey Mignone goal. Watertown's Phil Grainger goal mid-way through the period gave the Privateers a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission. This would be the last goal for Watertown in the game, as Dayton would put the clamps on Watertown, shutting them out for the rest of the game, while the Demonz would score 2 goals in the second period, and add two more in the third period.

With the Demonz killing off a penalty early in the 2nd, August Aiken's short-handed goal tied the game 2-2. Tenacious Demonz forward Jesse Felten's game winner half-way through the period gave Dayton the 3-2 lead, the Demonz would never look back as they would add two more goals in the final frame.

The 3rd period saw Dayton's Mignone score his second goal of the game, which put Dayton up 4-2. The final goal of the game was scored by Demonz defenseman Lee McClure with Dayton on the power-play, making it final 5-2.

Dayton outshot Watertown 35-33 in the game. Dayton went 1 for 5 on the power play, while Watertown was unable to score on the 8 power-play opportunities.

The 3 stars of the game were awarded to Dayton Demonz players. The first star was Casey Mignone. The second star was awarded to team captain Brian Marks. The third star went to Demonz alternate captain Jesse Felten.

With Danbury's loss to Danville, Dayton has moved into first place in the FHL. Dayton and Danbury play Saturday Night in Dayton, in a battle for first place, and both teams jockeying for home ice advantage with less than 10 games left in regular season play.
