Dunford's OT Winner Sinks Whalers in OT, 3-2

After the 5-3 loss from the night before, the Dashers were on a mission to get a victory, and a hard earned victory was the result, 3-2 in overtime.

The 1st period would see each team exchanging goals, first from Danville's Marc Thompson and then Danbury's Steve Brown late in the 1st. Other than a few good hits and good goaltending from Mike Brown and Matt Anthony, it was a fairly quiet 1st period. The 2nd period would see no goals, but plenty of big hits, especially from Alex Norman of Danville. Another point of interest is that Danbury was 0 for 4 on the power play through 2 periods had 0 shots combined on those power plays, the Dashers penalty kill unit was red hot and in total only allowed 2 shots in 5 power plays against.

The 3rd would see goals exchanged yet again. Joe Pace cashed in on a mad scramble in front to give Danville the lead, however Igor Karlov took advantage of a downed Matt Anthony to tie the game with about 6 minutes left. It would only take 36 seconds to determine the winner in overtime, as a 3 on 1 rush saw Mike Brown stop Ste. Marie, however the puck was behind his pads and Dunford would cash in to win the game.

For Danville, Marc Thompson, Joe Pace and Brian Dunford each had a goal. Darick Ste Marie and Jonathan Juliano each had 2 assists. Matt Anthony would stop 38 of 40 in his first start as a Dasher for the victory. For Danbury, Igor Karlov had a goal and assist, Steve Brown had a goal, and Ilya Solarev assisted on both Danbury goals. Mike Brown stopped 44 of 47 for the overtime loss.

Combined with Watertown's loss, the Dashers make big progress towards the last playoff spot in which Watertown still possesses for the time being. Danbury will play in Dayton tomorrow night and the Dashers host the Privateers. 748 fans attended tonight's game.

Dashers Lose Broadcaster to Broken Nose, Lose to Danbury 5-3

Having your broadcaster taken away in an ambulance is definitely a bad sign on a game night, and the Dashers would make it a close game but fall to Danbury 5-3. On a side note, IR'd forward Brian Soskin made his play by play debut.

After the delayed start, the Whalers would kick start the offense with three unanswered goals, 2 of which in the first period from David Lun and Garrett Peters. Between the 2 goals, 2 unlikely combatants, Liam Tully and Matt Caranci, got into a fight. Tully's jersey was reportedly ripped in the fight. In the 2nd period, James Sanford would extend the lead to 3-0, and soon after Jamie Zaleski scored to make it 3-1, the rough stuff got underway again. Joe Pace and Julian Fraser fought in an anticipated heavyweight bout, and minutes later Tim Richter and Nick Williams sqaured off.

The 3rd period would see the most goals. at 7:21, Ilya Solarev made it 4-1, and less than 2 minutes later it was Matt Puntureri making it a 2 goal game once again. With 44 seconds left, Darick Ste Marie made it a 1 goal game with the goalie pulled, however Ilya Solarev later scored on the empty net to make it 5-3, the final score.

For the Whalers, Ilya Solarev scored twice, James Sanford scored a goal and 2 assists, Garrett Peters added a goal and assist and David Lun had the other goal. Cody Ayers and Igor Karlov each had 2 assists. Tim Richter led with 9 PIM and Mike Brown stopped 42 of 45 shots for the victory. For Danville, Darick Ste Marie had a goal and 2 assists, Jamie Zaleski and Matt Puntureri had a goal each. Joe Pace, not surprisingly, led with 11 PIM. Jo St. Pierre stopped 36 of 40 for the loss.

Danville and Danbury faceoff again in Danville tomorrow at 7:05 pm CT. A crowd of 472 showed up for the Thursday night contest.
