Pitcher of the Week
Layne Dawson – Lakewood BlueClaws

Right-Handed Pitcher Layne Dawson repeats as the BC® Powder South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week after having been honored with the award on August 16th. The former Memphis Tiger earned the distinction this week with his complete game 3-hit shutout 2-0 road victory over the Southern Division leading Columbus RedStixx. Dawson struck out 6 batters and had no walks in his gem that raised his record to 5-4 on the season. Layne also has 5 saves on the season that has seen him split time between the bullpen and being a starting pitcher for the BlueClaws.

Batter of the Week
Walter Young – Hickory Crawdads

Walter Young has received his fair share of accolades this season as the BC® Powder South Atlantic League Batter of the Week has also earned distinction today as the South Atlantic League's Most Valuable Player and the South Atlantic League's Most Outstanding Major League Prospect. The Hattiesburg, MS native hit .588 this week collecting 10 hits in 17 at bats including 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 5 RBI for a 1.059 slugging percentage. Young still has a shot at the South Atlantic League Triple Crown as he currently ranks 3rd in Batting with a .333 average, 1st in Home Runs with 22 and tied for 1st in RBI with 94.
