Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
Leader of the Pack: The Yard Dawgz remain the #1 ranked offense in the af2 with an average of 315 yards/game and the #1 pass offense. The Yard Dawgz are also tied for the league lead with 3 KO returns for touchdowns.
The Graduate: WR Danny Howard continued to electrify the crowd with his ability to run after the catch. Howard grabbed 7 passes for 94 yards and 3 TD's. Howard remains among the elite receivers in the league with 68 receptions for 948 yards and 21 TD's.
King of the Hill: With his security blanket, Al Hunt, out, QB Stan Hill ad-libbed against Amarillo to lead the Dawgz to their 6th victory of the season. Hill completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 292 yards and 5 TD's. Hill added a rushing TD on a QB sneak. Hill ranks 3rd in both passing yards/game and 5th in total offense. Hill's 114.5 passer rating puts him 7th in the league. Hill was named the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game.
The Hunt Is On: Al Hunt did not play due to personal reasons. Earlier this season, Hunt became the 9th player to score 100 TD's, the 14th to reach the 4,000 receiving yards mark and the 7th player in af2 history to score 700 point in a career.
Clift Hanger: WR Ryan Clift has recovered from an early season injury to add fearless special teams help and sure hands to the Yard Dawgz. Since being inserted into the rotation, Clift has 7 catches for 118 yards and 3 TDs. But his ability to cover kick-offs and handle onside kicks has made him an important piece to the franchise.
Up Front: Barry Giles, Gene Frederic, Claude Davis, Zack Condo and fullback Michael Tolbert have been a solid wall of protection for QB Stan Hill so far this season. The offensive line has allowed just 4 sacks this season (1st in af2).
Sack Attack: The Yard Dawgz defense has held their last two opponents to season low point totals and the main reason is the pass rush. The defense had managed just 10 sacks in the first 7 games of the season, but has 7 sacks in the last two.
Larry Hayden: Hayden continues to become more involved as the season progresses. Hayden earned the US ARMY Ironman of the Game with his performance. The FB/LB harassed the Amarillo offense with 4 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, an interception and .5 sacks. Hayden also scored his first offensive TD while carrying the ball twice for 3 yards. Since taking over at LB in Week 3, Hayden has 25.5 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
Dawg Pound: The Dawgz won for the 3rd time at home in 4 tries with a decisive 46-36 victory over the Amarillo Dusters. The Yard Dawgz moved to 6-3 on the season. The Dawgz will return to Compassionate Care Hospice Field at the Ford Center on June 30 to avenge their season opening loss to the Florida Firecats.
Road Dawgz: After back-to-back home games the Dawgz will play two on the road against Arkansas and Rio Grande Valley. The two teams have a combined 14-4 record on the season.
Red River Rivalry: The two Oklahoma teams in the af2, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, are a combined 10-0 against the Texas contingent (Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Lubbock, Rio Grande Valley and Texas) this season. The Yard Dawgz are 13-4 all-time against Texas teams.
