Davidsons Dominate Opener in Doubleheader Split

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Florida Fire Frogs split Tuesday's doubleheader with the Bradenton Marauders at Osceola County Stadium, 6-0 and 3-2.

Game One: Florida - 6, Bradenton - 0

Tucker Davidson (4-4) took the ball in the opener and became the second pitcher to go the distance for Florida (27-34) this week, by tossing all seven frames in the southpaw's first career complete game and shutout. The 22-year-old scattered five hits and issued two walks, but also struck out five men on 95 pitches (60 strikes).

Cristian Pache (1x4, R, HR, RBI) started the offense early for the home team, taking Enny Romero (0-1) deep on the third pitch of the game from the opposing lefty.

The Fire Frogs extended the lead to three with a two spot against reliever Adam Oller in the second inning. Shean Michel (2x3, RBI) drove home Ray-Patrick Didder (1x3, R) with a line-drive single to center. After Pache bounced into a fielder's choice, Alejandro Salazar (0x4, RBI) brought home Lucas Herbert (1x3, R) from third with a high, bouncing ball to third.

Florida broke the game open with a three-spot in the fifth, utilizing a two-run long ball off the bat of reining Florida State League Player of the Week, Braxton Davidson (1x2, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB).

Game Two: Florida - 2, Bradenton - 3

Bradenton (32-28) struck early against Ian Anderson, plating a run on three hits in the opening frame of the nightcap.

Anderson needed 33 pitches to get through the first, and needed 27 more to work through the second in his two-inning start.

Pache gave the Fire Frogs a lead i the third innings with a two-run single past a diving Adrian Valerio at short. Jordan Rodgers (1x2, R, 2B) doubled to left with one out in the inning, and moved up to third when Marcus Mooney (0x2, R) reached on an error by Hunter Owen at third, allowing the runners to advance an additional 90 feet.

Pache followed with a hard hit grounder up the middle to give Florida the 2-1 edge.

Mauricio Cabrera took the advantage into the sixth, but surrendered the lead on an RBI double to left by Arden Pabst, scoring Owen all the way from first ahead of a relay throw from Didder.

The Marauders grabbed the late lead in the seventh with a run against Dan Lietz (0-1). The left-handed reliever gave up a one-out two-bagger to Albert Baur, and Alfredo Reyes followed with a run-scoring single to center.

James Marvel (6-4) retired the side in order in the seventh, picking up his second complete game of 2018. The right-hander set down the final 13 batters of the night after Pache's two-run knock.

Florida looks to jump back ahead in the series in game three of the four-game set at Osceola County Stadium on Wednesday night. LHP Joey Wentz (1-2, 3.77) makes his first appearance since May 11 for the Fire Frogs against the Marauders' LHP Evan Piechota (0-0, 11.25). First pitch is scheduled for 6:31 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the Florida Fire Frogs Pre-game Show on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
