Daryl Doran named to MISL USA All-Star team

(Westport, Conn., February 13, 2004) – St. Louis Steamers player/coach Daryl Doran has been named to the 2004 MISL USA All-Star team as a Commissioner's Selection, the League announced on Friday. Doran will take the field on his home turf in the 2004 MISL All-Star Game, on Sunday, February 29, at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO, home of the Steamers. Kickoff is 1:05 p.m. Central.

One of the most renowned figures in indoor soccer history and a St. Louis institution, Doran is in his 20th season of play, all but one of which has been spent in St. Louis. He is one of a select few to enjoy comparable success as a player and a coach. With 385 goals, 487 assists, and 818 blocks in 775 career games, he stands as one of the most productive players of all time. He was named the 1996-97 NPSL Defender of the Year and was an All-League selection for six straight years from 1992-98. This will mark his 13th overall All-Star appearance.

Since beginning his coaching career with the NPSL's St. Louis Ambush midway through the 1992-93 season, he has posted a regular season record of 193-141 (.578). His Ambush clubs from '93 through 1998 were among the most dominant in the game's recent history, recording a regular season record of 154-86 (.642) and a postseason mark of 33-23 (.589). Along the way, the Ambush earned five division titles and four conference championships. The 1994-95 club won the NPSL Championship, and Doran was recognized as Coach of the Year.

In 2003-04, the 40-year-old Doran has scored nine goals and 19 points while blocking eight shots in 19 games.
