April 10, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release

DETROIT - Today, the USL Championship announced that Detroit City FC head coach Danny Dichio has been named the league's Coach of the Month for March after he led the squad to a perfect 3-0-0 record in the first month of the season with wins over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Loudoun United and Indy Eleven, all by scorelines of 2-1.

The three consecutive 2-1 wins were the first time that Detroit City FC has scored more than one goal in three consecutive wins since joining the USL Championship ahead of the 2022 season. Also, Le Rouge had not won three consecutive matches since winning four in a row between April 9, 2022, and April 30, 2022.

Dichio joined Le Rouge ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season after serving as an assistant coach under Mark Briggs at Sacramento Republic in 2022 and 2023. Before his stint at Sacramento, Dichio spent over a decade coaching in the Toronto FC youth setup after a storied playing career.

Sporting Director Trevor James won Coach of the Month honors in April of 2022, the only other time a Detroit City FC head coach has won this honor.

Dichio earned the award with 53 percent of the ballot. Louisville City FC's Danny Cruz finished second on 38 percent after also leading his side to a perfect month of March with three wins from three games against opponents that reached the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs.

The USL Championship's Coach of the Month award is voted upon by the USL Championship National Media Panel and the USL Championship Technical Committee, with each group responsible for 50 percent of the overall vote.
