Yuma Scorpions News Release
Tryouts for the Lady Scorpions' Dance Team-sponsored by State Farm Insurance-will be held Saturday January 21st. The tryouts will be held at Country Club Motors and will begin at 11:00AM. Participants will perform in the order they arrive. Lady Scorpions' Dance Team Coordinator Lisa Aho-who led the Cibola High School cheer squad for 3 years-will be in her second year as dance team instructor and will oversee the tryouts. Joining Aho in helping judge the contestants will be a celebrity panel of judges consisting of dance team coordinators from around Yuma County, as well as representatives from State Farm Insurance and members of the media.
The Lady Scorpions' Dance Team will consist of a 10-person dance team that will perform before, during and after the 40 Scorpions' home games this season. They will also be available for community appearances during the season-whether the Scorpions are at home or on the road. They'll also be a year-round dance team that will make community appearances during the Scorpions' off-season. "This is another way that we found would make coming to a Scorpions' game even more memorable," said Scorpions' General Manager Pat Brown. "We think the Lady Scorpions will help us also be visible in the Yuma community 12 months a year-not just during the summer."
The Lady Scorpions will certainly have a family atmosphere to them-since the ages of the dancers will be much more varied than most dance teams. "Our Dance Team will be young adults... and even younger," said Aho. "You're going to see the âhere and now' of dancers, as well as the future of dancing. We're looking for dancers as old as 30 years of age, and as young as 13. You'd be amazed at how well young kids in our area can dance. We want them to be part of it, too." The tryouts are free and open to the public, and those that make the cut will also get their uniform and dance bag free-courtesy of State Farm Insurance. Those interested in trying out must pick up a tryout CD at any one of our local State Farm offices. Tryout participants will be expected to choreograph and perform a routine to one of the songs on the CD.
