Danbury Titans News Release
DANBURY, CT -- The Danbury Titans, winners of their last three games, hosted the Dayton Demolition on a chilly Valentine's Day Sunday afternoon. The Titans would set a season high with six goals in the first period en route to a 11-6 shellacking of Dayton. Mike Driscoll would record a hat trick and two assists on the way to being named the first star of the game.
The Titans exploded for six goals in the first period to put the game out of reach early. Mike Driscoll would break the ice at the 6:14 mark, assisted by Tyler Gjurich and Jarrett Rush. Just over a minute later, Ryan Patsch would double the lead to two, assisted by Driscoll. Driscoll would record his second of the game a minute and a half later, with Patsch and Gjurich getting the helpers. Brad Townsend would put Dayton on the board with a short handed goal, unassisted at 13:44. Danbury would respond on the power play as Dean Yakura would deflect a John Scorcia pass from behind the net to make it 4-2. Dayton's Mike Dolman would cut the lead to 2 with a goal of his own less than a minute later. Again on the power play, the Titans were able to cycle the puck back to Steve Brown, who blasted a shot past the glove of the embattled Dayton goaltender Josselin St Pierre to make it 5-2 with under a minute to go. Liscomb and Gjurich would record the assists. Not done yet, Dan Loughlin would score for Danbury 22 seconds later, to make the score 6-2 at the end of the first. St Pierre would be pulled at the end of the period, giving up 6 goals on 16 shots.
Making his debut in net for the Demolition was the recently signed Matt Cooper to begin the second period, and Dayton began their comeback. Jacques Lamoureux would score twice, the first coming just 38 seconds into the period. His second goal five minutes later would chase starter Nick Niedert from the Danbury crease, to be replaced by Mike Pearless. Danbury would stem the bleeding with goals from Jarrett Rush at 10:43 and Ryan Patsch at 13:25 to restore the four goal lead. Scorica and Yakura assisted on Rush's goal, while Gjurich got the helper on Patsch's. Martin Uhnak would score on the power play for Dayton at 17:36 to finish the second period with Danbury holding a 8-5 lead.
Looking to put the game further out of reach, the Titans would score 3 goals in 5:32 to start the third period, removing any doubt on the outcome of the game. First Scorcia scored 25 seconds into the period, assisted by Yakura and Liscomb. Driscoll would complete the hat trick two and a half minutes later, assisted by Patsch and Gjurich, and Yakura would score one of his own, assisted by Liscomb. Scott Kozlak netted Dayton's 6th of the game with under a minute to go, which got St Pierre off the hook and gave the loss officially to Matt Cooper. The Titans remain in second place in the Federal Hockey League and will be in action again the night of February 18th, with a road game in Port Huron.
