Jersey Rockhoppers News Release

Tuesday night at the Essex County Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain, the Danbury Mad Hatters beat the Jersey Rockhoppers 9-4, avenging their defeat on Sunday afternoon. Early on, both team struggled offensively. The Rockhoppers did not get a shot on goal until the 6 minute mark of the first period, but they made it count as Anthony Becker scored his first of two goals on the night. Jersey took their 1-0 lead into the second period, but Danbury's offense came to life. Matt Cosmos and Jonathan Lounsbury each scored their 3rd goals of the season to give Danbury a 2-1 advantage. Becker scored his second of the night on the power play on a pass in front of the crease from Matt Puntureri to tie the game at 2-2. However the Mad Hatters would pull away on the back of Erik Kent.

Kent would score a total of four goals on the night, including two off of spectacular passes from teammate Obi Aduba. The Hatters power play was the real key to victory on Tuesday night, going 3-for-5, with all three power play goals coming in the second period, to help Danbury earn the victory and pull two points closer in the race for second place. Jersey currently holds a 7 point lead over the Mad Hatters, but Danbury has 3 'games in hand,' with thirteen games left to play this season.

The Mad Hatters are at home again this Friday February 27, at 7:30pm against the Hudson Valley Bears at the Danbury Ice Arena. For tickets visit www.DanburyIce.com. The Rockhoppers are off until Saturday February 28 when they will again host the Mad Hatters at the Essex County Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain, at 7:30pm.
