Jersey Rockhoppers News Release
For the second straight night and third time in ten days, the Jersey Rockhoppers and Brooklyn Aces needed more than 60 minutes to determine a winner. Friday night it was Jersey that emerged victorious by a score of 5-4, to even the EPHL Championship Series at 1-1. Brooklyn came out firing early on, looking to complete the two-game sweep. Chris Holmes scored just 2:36 into the first period to give Brooklyn a 1-0 lead that they would hold heading into the second. Less than two minutes into the second stanza, Chris Robinson deflected a Jesse Felten slapshot past Nick Niedert to give the Aces a 2-0 advantage. Jersey finally got on the board midway through the second on Chris Ferazzoli's second playoff goal on a pass from linemate Tom Boudreau. With under two minutes remaining in the second, Rob Miller kept the puck in at the blue line and passed to Chris Holmes, who found Mike Christensen in the slot and the Aces extended their lead to 3-1.
Facing elimination heading into the third period, Jersey buckled down and cut the deficit in half on a Matt Tyree slapshot. Tyree would strike again, this time with and assist to Ferazzoli on his second goal of the night, tying the game at 3-3. Brooklyn's Kyle McCullough then stole a pass near the blue line and went unassited to the net and beating Niedert to give the Aces a 4-3 lead with less than five minutes to go in regulation. But the Rockhoppers weren't finished, as Matt Tyree unleashed a slapshot from the point past Eddie Neville to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the extra frame, both Niedert and Neville continued to trade spectacular saves. Jersey was able to kill a penalty early in the overtime, and found themselves on the power play just over six minutes into the period. The Rockhoppers cycled the puck around the zone until Matt Puntureri slid a pass to Tom Boudreau who wristed the puck past Neville for the game-winner, and forcing the decisive Game 3 on Saturday
