February 24, 2009 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL) News Release


With four weeks remaining in the 2008-09 Eastern Professional Hockey League regular season, it's "crunch time" as teams start to battle for playoff positioning. A reminder that the EPHL playoff format for this season will involve the first and second place teams from the regular season playing a best of three championship series starting around March 26th.

Last Week in Review

The Jersey Rockhoppers (24-13-2) closed to within nine points of the first place Brooklyn Aces (28-7-3). The Danbury Mad Hatters (20-15-1) are now nine points behind the second place Rockhoppers. Brooklyn, Danbury, and Jersey all posted records of 2-1 last week while Hudson Valley (3-33-1) went 0-3.

The EPHL Week Ahead

Tuesday 2/24: Danbury @ Jersey (7:00pm) (*Make-up of the 11/27/08 postponed game)

Thursday 2/26: Hudson Valley @ Brooklyn (7:30pm)

Friday 2/27: Hudson Valley @ Danbury (7:30pm)

Saturday 2/28: Danbury @ Jersey (7:30pm)

Saturday 2/28: Brooklyn @ Hudson Valley (8:00pm / Newburgh)

EPHL Player of the Week

The Jersey Rockhoppers Tom Boudreau and Logan Bittle have been named Co-Eastern Professional Hockey League Players of the Week. The two ‘Hoppers forwards each scored five goals this past week. Boudreau, the Oak Lawn, Illinois native, scored four of his goals against Danbury on February 22nd and on the week had nine points (5 goals & 4 assists). Bittle, from Peoria, Illinois, had a six point week (5 goals & 1 assist) and was rewarded with a call-up to the Dayton Bombers (ECHL). On the year, Tom Boudreau is third in scoring in the EPHL with 30 goals & 37 assists (67 pts) while Bittle, prior to his recall, was ninth in the EPHL with 44 points (20 goals & 24 assists).

EPHL Goaltender of the Week

Derek MacIntyre from the Danbury Mad Hatters is the Eastern Professional Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. MacIntyre won two games last week stopping 68 of 72 shots in the process; including 42 of 43 shots in the Mad Hatters 4-1 victory over Brooklyn. For the year, the Stanwood, Michigan native and former San Jose Sharks draft choice is third among EPHL goaltenders with a 3.53 goals against average and an 89.7% save percentage. Derek is second in minutes played with 1783 (second only to Jersey's Nick Niedert).

EPHL Notes

A number of EPHL players had the opportunity to receive call-ups in the past seven days. Hudson Valley goaltender Len DiCostanzo saw time in both Reading (ECHL) and Portland (AHL), as did Jersey goaltender Rob Lemelin. Hudson Valley Bears forwards John Geverd & Scott Estey were also called-up to Reading (ECHL). Danbury goaltender Jeff Hill got the call to Hartford (AHL) and Jersey forward Logan Bittle headed west to the ECHL's Dayton Bombers.....this Thursday night (2/26) will be "College Night" with the Brooklyn Aces. Anyone presenting a valid college ID will receive a general admission ticket and hot dog for only $10.00.
