Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS, GA (October 4, 2010) - The Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League are proud to announce three members of the 2010 Championship Squad have signed with AFL clubs including defensive back Damian "Nighthawk" Daniels along with offensive lineman Dion Small and Terrance Crosby.

For the past four years Columbus Lions fans have witnessed one of their own become one of indoor football greatest defensive players of all time in Damian Daniels (5'10 175 West Georgia). A hometown local product of Shaw High School, Daniels has compiled impressive numbers, including an unprecedented feat of winning the Defensive MVP Award in three different leagues (2010-SIFL, 2009-AIFA, 2007-WIFL) and a regular season career total of 55 interceptions to go along with 145.5 tackles. More importantly, he was the anchor for the Lions defense as they captured their first title back in early July.

It comes as no shock that "Nighthawk" got a second look from an AFL club, previously signed with Georgia Force, this time around with the Cleveland Gladiators. Damian won't have to look far for some friends, as he will be partnered up with former high school and Columbus Lions mate in wide receiver Troy Bergeron who also just recently signed with the Gladiators.

"Losing Damian is like losing part of your family, but no one better deserves it than Damian," says Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. "He has been one of the constants for this organization as he has dominated every league we have played in, I expect much of the same for him at the next level."

Also moving up the ranks are both offensive lineman Dion Small (6'3 310, Troy) and Terrance Crosby (6'0 300, Catawba). Small was the main constant on the Lions offensive line and it showed as Small earned All-SIFL 1st Team honors in 2010. Hailing from nearby Americus, GA where he went to JUCO Georgia Military College before transferring to Troy University, the two-time All-Sun Belt selection led the Trojans in 2007 with 59 knockdown blocks in 980 snaps. Crosby was a late addition to the Lions Championship squad shoring up an offensive line that did not allow a single sack in both playoff victories.

This weekend, the Columbus Lions will be on the out look for some undiscovered talent with their first tryout of the season on Saturday October 9th in Atlanta at Lakewood Stadium located at 70 Claire Dr. SW.
