Damian Harrell Hosts Bobby Sippio
June 12, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - Two of the AFL's most exciting and explosive offensive players in Colorado Crush WR DAMIAN HARRELL and Chicago Rush WR BOBBY SIPPIO meet again this Monday on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday, June 18, at 10 p.m. ET (ESPN2 & ESPN360.com, SIRIUS Radio Channel 123) to continue the touchdown assault that began at AllState Arena on May 7.
Harrell (116 REC, 1,347 YDs, 40 TDs) and Sippio (106 REC, 1,535 YDs, 47 TDs) accounted for 25 receptions, 318 receiving yards and 11 of the game's 16 total touchdowns, as the Rush defeated the Crush, 59-48.
Harrell (10-159-6) exploded in the first half scoring four touchdowns to Sippio's two as the Crush took a 33-28 lead into the half. Sippio (15-159-5) responded in the second frame, outscoring Harrell three-to-two and leading his team to the victory.
The primetime matchup gave the rest of the League a chance to see two of its most potent weapons on display, and they did not disappoint.
"Some of the catches (Harrell) made, the one-handed ones, he makes them look so routine," said New Orleans VooDoo head coach MIKE NEU after watching the first game. "You know teams are game-planning to try and slow them down, and to be able to step up like that week-in and week-out is incredible".
With the playoffs two weeks away and the Mitsubishi Motors Central Division crown still undecided, both players need to bring their best to secure a victory in their fight for the division title, and a first-round bye.
After missing the last three games with an ankle injury, Sippio returned with a vengeance last week recording nine receptions for 179 yards and six touchdowns as Chicago got back on track with a 55-32 victory over Grand Rapids.
In contrast, Harrell and Colorado are coming off the second-worst defeat in franchise history. The 51-14 loss to Utah in Week 14 saw Harrell's 78-game streak of consecutive games with a touchdown reception come to an end and dropped the Crush to fifth place in the American Conference playoff standings.
Despite missing the past three weeks, Sippio still leads the League in touchdowns and stands three shy of becoming the fourth player in AFL history to record 50 in a season.
The game promises to be an exciting one with great action and multiple scores while shaping the American Conference playoff outlook in the process.
