February 12, 2020 - XFL (XFL)
Dallas Renegades News Release
LOSING STREAKS NOT WELCOME HERE
The Renegades fell to the St. Louis BattleHawks in their season opener - only the fourth time in head coach Bob Stoops' career that he has lost the first game of a season.
- In previous seasons where Coach Stoops' teams lost their first game, his squads combined to produce a 27-8 (.771) record in the remaining contests.
- Stoops is 40-6 (.870) in his career in games following a loss.
- Teams coaches by Stoops have lost back-to-back games only three times in his career, with two of the two-game losing streaks posted in the season-finale and subsequent bowl game (2014: Oklahoma State, Clemson; 2003: Kansas State, LSU).
- Only one time - in 1999 - has a Stoops-led squad lost consecutive regular-season games. That year, the Oklahoma Sooners fell at Notre Dame and versus Texas.
- Prior to last Sunday, a team coached by Stoops had never scored exactly nine points in a game.
WELCOME, XFL, TO THE FOOTBALL CAPITAL OF AMERICA!
The Dallas Renegades are the newest professional sports team in North Texas. Here's a few facts that will remind you that football is king in the Lone Star State:
- Texas has two teams in the XFL - the only state with more than one.
- Texas has 18 Division I (FBS, FCS) college football teams - more than any other state.
- There are 1,541 college and high school football teams in Texas.
- The Renegades are the fifth professional football team to bear the Dallas name (Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Texans, Dallas Renegades, Dallas Desperados, Dallas Vigilantes)
THESE GUYS LOOK FAMILIAR
Football fans in North Texas may notice that a few of the guys look familiar, as several have ties in the region. Nine players claim a hometown in the state of Texas, while five - Lance Dunbar (North Texas), Drew Galitz (Baylor), Jerrod Heard (Texas), Dashaun Phillips (Tarleton State) and Austin Walter (Rice) - attended universities in the state. In addition, Frank Alexander, Landry Jones and Jeff Badet played college football at Oklahoma - where Bob Stoops won nearly 200 career games.
SERIES NOTES: This is the first meeting between the Renegades and Wildcats. The contest will be the first of two 2020 meetings between the squads, with LA traveling to Texas on Thursday, April 9. In 2004, Bob Stoops was the head coach at OU when Norm Chow's offense at USC posted a 55-19 victory in the BCS National Championship.
