Dallas Renegades News Release
ARLINGTON, Texas - Dallas Renegades head coach Bob Stoops said on Thursday that Philip Nelson will start at quarterback in Week 5 versus the New York Guardians (Saturday, 5 p.m. ET, on FOX).
Landry Jones will need at least two weeks to recover from a knee injury he suffered in Week 4 that was an aggravation of his preseason issue.
"Philip's done a really good job for us," Stoops said. "In the first game, I thought he played really well overall. In the end, guys around him need to play well and come up with plays. I think Philip's more than capable. He's a really good quarterback, so we're excited to see what he can do out there."
Nelson filled in for Jones in Week 1 and was precise, completing 33 of 42 passing attempts (79 percent) and netting 218 yards, but he didn't log a TD, and Dallas lost 15-9 to the St. Louis BattleHawks.
Brogan Roback and Eric Dungey are backup options.
