FC Dallas News Release
BURN TO FACE RED-HOT WIZARDS SATURDAY AT COTTON BOWL
The Burn will play the second match of a three-match homestand as they host the streaking Kansas City Wizards this Saturday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl. The Wizards (8-4-4, 28 points) are currently riding a seven-match unbeaten streak and sit in second place in the Western Conference standings. The Burn (5-5-5) are currently in fourth in the West with 20 points.
BURN/WIZARDS SERIES NOTES
Kansas City leads the all-time series 14-13-4...the Burn won the first meeting of the year, 1-0 at the Cotton Bowl, before dropping 2-0 and 5-1 decisions at Arrowhead Stadium...the Burn has just two victories in their last 11 meetings vs. the Wizards, posting a 2-6-3 record over that span...the Burn has won the last two meetings vs. Kansas City in Dallas...Jason Kreis leads all Burn scorers vs. the Wizards with 14 goals and seven assists for 35 points.
2004 BURN VASTLY IMPROVED FROM YEAR AGO AT HALFWAY POINT
With 15 games already under their belt in the 2004 season, the Burn at the midway point in no way resembles the team from just one year ago. With nine players from last year either traded or released and with the 11 new faces added to the roster, the results through 15 matches this season are quite different than where the team sat just one year ago.

KREIS NAMED AS COMMISSIONER'S PICK FOR ALL-STAR GAME
Burn forward Jason Kreis was selected today by MLS Commissioner Don Garber to represent the West side at the 2004 Sierra Mist All-Star Game to be held on Saturday, July 31 at RFK Stadium. Kreis and Freddy Adu of DC United were named as commissioner's picks while 12 other players were named as reserves for the match. Kreis will join defender Cory Gibbs and midfielder Ronnie O'Brien, who were named starters for the match last week.
CASSAR NAMED MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Burn goalkeeper Jeff Cassar has been named MLS Player of the Week by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association. Cassar made several big saves as the Burn went 1-0-1 last week. Wednesday at San Jose, against a team that had beaten the Burn in seven straight matches, Cassar made two huge saves. With the score tied at one, a Landon Donovan pass found Brian Ching behind the Burn defense about five yards from goal. Cassar flung himself toward Ching's feet and was able to parry the ball away. In stoppage time, just minutes after Simo Valakari had given the Burn a 2-1 lead, the âQuakes were awarded a penalty kick. Cassar guessed correctly, diving to his right, and was just able to get his hand to Donovan's shot to preserve the victory.
Saturday vs. Columbus, he earned his first shutout of the year and registered a highlight-reel save on an Edson Buddle shot in the 38th minute. Kyle Martino coolly split two Burn defenders with a pass to Eric Denton, whose low cross found the unmarked Buddle crashing into the heart of the area. But Cassar leapt to deny the striker's first-time effort from six yards.
