D-Fenders Take Care of Jam

L SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League fell behind early, but managed to pull out a 115-105 victory over the Bakersfield Jam Thursday at STAPLES Center.

Los Angeles found themselves in an early hole as the Jam jumped out with a 9-2 run, but the

D-Fenders finished the opening quarter strong, cutting the lead to 24-22 at the break. Los Angeles continued their strong play as they started to pull away from the Jam, taking a 54-42 lead into the locker rooms.

The D-Fenders shot 49% from the field and were 15-17 at the charity stripe. D-Fenders guard, and assigned Lakers rookie, Coby Karl led the team with 26 points on 10-16 shooting, four for six from behind the arc. Karl also finished the night with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Los Angeles' bench outscored Bakersfield's reserves 50-15. D-Fenders guard Brian Chase came off the bench to score 21 points, 10 of which came in the second quarter; Los Angeles back-up big man Stephane Lasme, had a season-high six rejections.

"The bench play is what saved us. We did not get off to a good start in the beginning of the game, so it was the bench play that was the difference tonight," said D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio.

Bakersfield was led by forward Brandon Bowman's 28 points and 13 rebounds. Jam guard Andre Barrett continued his stellar play against Los Angeles by dishing out 15 assists and adding 3 steals in the contest, but Bakersfield could not hit important shots down the stretch.

"We had the shots, but we didn't hit the shots that we normally make;" said Jam Head Coach Jim Harrick. "Those kinds of things deflate your team a little bit. We had opportunities to win the game, but we just didn't shoot the ball very well. That's what the road does to you sometimes."

The D-Fenders will travel to Utah on Saturday to take on the Flash for the third time in a week. The Jam will head to Albuquerque for a Friday night feature vs. the Thunderbirds.
