D.C. United Midfielder Lamar Neagle Voted MLS Player of the Week

October 4, 2016 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK - D.C. United midfielder Lamar Neagle was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 30th week of the 2016 MLS season.

In the midst of a heated playoff race, Neagle continues to be a difference maker, scoring two goals in D.C. United's 2-1 victory over previously top of the table Toronto FC at BMO Field on Saturday. The brace was the first of the season for Neagle, as he now leads United with nine goals to go along with six assists in his first year with the club. Over D.C.'s current five-game unbeaten mark, including wins in its previous three matches, Neagle has four goals and two assists, helping catapult the club into the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference (East #5, 43 points, 10-9-13 record).

D.C. got on the board with Neagle's opportunistic goal in the 39th minute to draw the match even at 1-1. Toronto goalkeeper Clint Irwin deflected a shot towards Neagle, who responded with a diving header directly in front of goal for the equalizer (Watch Goal).

Neagle would complete his brace in the 58th minute, as he made a run into the box and received a through ball from teammate Lloyd Sam, and sent a right-footed shot just over Irwin for the game-winner (Watch Goal).

D.C. United next welcomes New York City FC to RFK Stadium on Sunday, October 16 (3 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
