
D.C. United Announce the Permanent Transfer of Erik Sorga to IFK Göteborg

Washington, DC - D.C. United have announced that forward Erik Sorga has been acquired by IFK Göteborg in the Swedish first division on a permanent transfer following the termination of his loan with VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch soccer.
"We want to thank Erik for his service to the club since joining in 2020," Lucy Rushton, D.C. United General Manager, said. "We wish him the best of luck in Sweden in the next chapter of his professional career."
Sorga joined VVV-Venlo on a season-long loan on Aug. 12, 2021. After his acquisition by VVV-Venlo, Sorga scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Dutch side. He scored twice on his debut for the club in a 2-1 win against Almere City FC on Aug. 21, 2021.
Sorga joined the Black-and-Red on Jan. 29, 2020 after being acquired from D.C. United's United Soccer League (USL) affiliate, Loudoun United FC. The 22-year-old made his MLS debut on March 7, 2020, in the 2-1 win against CF Montreal. Sorga scored his first career MLS goal in the 1-0 win against the New York Red Bulls on Sept. 2, 2020; a 98th-minute game-winner. In total, Sorga scored one goal in 21 appearances (nine starts) for the Black-and-Red.
