D.C. United Academy results: United's U-18 and U-16 Academy teams had a similar weekend, with one win and one loss apiece. On Saturday, April 5, the squads traveled to Rutherford, NJ to Tryon Field where the 16s and 18s both suffered losses at the hands of the Red Bulls. Peabo Doue scored for the 16s in the 3-1 loss, while Ricky Burke and Matt Oduaran scored for the 18s in their 4-2 loss.
Sunday fared better for the United squads in their meetings with the Baltimore Bays. Matt Oduaran and Prince Latnet scored for the 18s in the 2-1 victory. The 16s also triumphed over the Bays on Sunday. Mike Funes scored two goals for the team, with one resulting from a penalty kick. Lester Dewee topped off the the 3-1 victory.
"It was an emotional weekend for our program as we had a tough time finding our form on the road Saturday against MLS rival NY Red Bull, but then bounced back on Sunday with stellar performances from both our U16's and U18's against the very talented Baltimore Bays. I am extremely proud of all of our players, they showed the character and the skill that it takes to play at a very high level," said the Director of Youth Development John Maessner.
Both teams have a 4-2-2 record on the season and will face FC Delco and PA Classics at home at Maryland Soccerplex on April 12-13.
