D.C. United Academy to Hold Tryouts for U-16 Team

Washington, D.C. (July 8, 2011) -D.C. United announced today that the club is set to host tryouts for its Under-16 Academy team. Open tryouts will be held July 12-13 on the turf field at D.C. United's Training Complex adjacent to Lot 7 of RFK Stadium.

All players must be born on or after January 1, 1995 and before December 31, 1996 in order to be eligible for tryouts.

Tryout dates:

July 12: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

July 13: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

All players must be registered by 2:00 p.m. ET on the day of the tryout. D.C. United asks that all players arrive to the turf field by 4:30 p.m. ET.

The club's Youth Academy is a cornerstone of the D.C. United organization. In late 2009, goalkeeper Bill Hamid became the first Academy player to be signed directly to United's senior roster. In 2010 Andy Najar and Conor Shanosky were signed to the club's first team, with Najar winning MLS Rookie of the Year for the 2010 season. The club then signed Ethan White ahead of the 2011 Major League Soccer campaign. Additionally, United's Academy leads the nation in NCAA Division I college placement for its players.
