Cyclones receive assist from Columbia Inferno

October 19, 2005 - SPHL (SPHL)
Twin City Cyclones News Release

The Pee Dee Cyclones of the Southern Professional Hockey League have new neighbors to the west in the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. Such is the case as the Cyclones prepare for their inaugural season at the Florence Civic Center. In previous years, the Florence Civic Center and the Columbia Inferno worked together to assist each other when a conflict in scheduling arose at either location. "We're delighted to have the opportunity to continue this great relationship", said Civic Center General Manager Kendall Wall. The first assist from the Inferno comes tomorrow (Thursday, October 20th) when the Pee Dee Cyclones travel to Columbia for a 12:30PM practice while the Florence Civic Center hosts the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce's City-County Luncheon and "ShowBiz 2005."

Rick Woodard, General Manager of the Columbia Inferno, agrees with Kendall Wall. "Even though we play in different hockey leagues it is important to support each other", Woodard said. "We will help the Cyclones on days when the ice isn't available in Florence and they will reciprocate whenever we have a problem in Columbia."

"Rick Woodard is no stranger to hockey in Florence", said Kendall Wall. "In 1997, Rick was very instrumental in recruiting hockey to the Pee Dee Region and last spring was a driving force to keep hockey as a permanent tenant here at the Florence Civic Center with the signing of the Cyclones. He understands the importance of improving the quality of life for Florence and we appreciate his hard work for our community."

"The Cyclones are very appreciative of the cooperation with the Inferno", said Cyclones General Manager Jim Riggs. "We hope this is the beginning of a great relationship with the Columbia Inferno organization. I was around for the beginning of the ECHL (1988/89) and have always been impressed with the management the league and its member clubs."
