BURLINGTON, VT --- The starting pitchers did their jobs over the first five innings before the Brooklyn bullpen just outlasted the Vermont Lake Monster relievers in a 7-6 Cyclones victory on Monday night in New York-Penn League action at historic Centennial Field.

The game was scoreless over the first five innings as Brooklyn starter Dillon Gee (3-1) allowed just four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in his 5.2 innings, while Vermont starter Colton Willems just six hits with two walks and a strikeout in his five innings.

The Cyclones got the scoring started in the sixth inning on an RBI double double from Raul Reyes off Lake Monsters reliever Randy Matias (0-1). Brooklyn increased the lead to 5-0 with four runs in the top of the seventh, including a two-run double from Lucas Duda and an RBI triple from Reyes.

Vermont got on the scoreboard in the botttom of the inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Dan Lyons and Aaron Seuss to cut the defict to 5-2, but Brooklyn regained the five-run advantage with two unearned runs in the eighth inning off Caleb Staudt.

The Lake Monsters again rallied in the eighth inning, this time scoring four runs off reliever Eddie Kunz. Boomer Whiting started the rally with a two-out, two-run single to centerfield to cut the lead to 7-4.

After a hit batter loaded the bases, Seuss hit a pitch from Kunz down the leftfield line that was home run distance and would have given Vermont the lead, but just curved foul at the wall. Seuss did hit the next pitch for a two-run single to get the Lake Monsters within a run at 7-6, but Mark GIldea struckout to end the inning and the threat.

Duda and Reyes were both 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Joaquin Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with two runs for Brooklyn (41-30). Seuss was 2-for-5 with three RBI and Whiting 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Lake Monsters, who lost all three games in the series to Brooklyn and five of the six games on the homestand.

Vermont (33-31) head to Tri-City for games on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to Centennial Field on Thursday night to begin a six-game homestand with the Oneonta Tigers and Lowell Spinners to close out the 2007 home season.
