
Cyclones Kick Off Three Game Series With Johnstown With 3-2 Shootout Win Thursday Night

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones extended their winning streak to two games with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Johnstown Chiefs. Jason Deitsch's shootout goal provided the margin of victory.. Cyclones netminder Cedrick Desjardins made 17 saves in winning back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The teams battled to a scoreless draw through the first period, although the Cyclones kept the pressure up by outshooting the Chiefs by a 21-4 margin. It marked the second time this season that Cincinnati held Johnstown to four shots in a period this season.
In the second period, the scoring opened when Cyclones veteran Sam Ftorek tallied his second goal in three games at 1:45. Mathieu Aubin and Torry Gajda picked up the assists. Johnstown responded with goals from Maxime Boisclair at 8:23 and P.J. Atherton at 16:09, to take a 2-1 lead.
Cincinnati native Jason Deitsch scored his tenth goal at 18:46 of the frame to knot the game at 2-2. Aubin and Ftorek collected the assists. The Cyclones outshot Johnstown, ten to six in the frame. Cincinnati outshot Johnstown by a 45-19 margin in the contest.
The Cyclones improve to 11-10-1, third in the North Division-two points out of first place. Johnstown is now 10-10-3 and is also in third place in the North Division.
The teams meet again at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday (Dec. 15) at 7:30pm. It will be 'Big Ben Helmet Safety Night'. The Ohio Dept. of Public Safety will provide information on motorcycle safety to all in attendance, along with $50 gift certificates to The Plastic Surgery Group--with a grand prize winner getting a $500 gift certificate. The first 1500 kids will receive Cyclones foam goalie helmets and two lucky ticket holders will receive Pocket Rocket motor bikes (complete with safety helmets).
The game kicked off a stretch of three games in three nights between the teams.
