Twin City Cyclones News Release
On a warm evening in Florence, South Carolina the first-placed Columbus Cottonmouths came with hopes of handing the Cyclones another loss. However, the Cyclones came out hitting hard and surprised the Cottonmouths with a 4-5 victory.
Pee Dee's Kevin Harris got on the board first with a shot at the 7:05 mark. Soon after, Edan Welch added another for the Cyclones. Art Mnatsakanov also scored at 16:35 to put the Cyclones up 3-0. Columbus managed to get one shot past Cyclones' netminder Leni Di Costanzo before the end of the period.
The Cyclones kept the Cottonmouths from putting any pucks in the net for the second period, but added another of their own with a shot from Scott Corbett to put the Cyclones up 4-1.
Columbus came alive in the third period, scoring two almost back-to-back goals, but Pee Dee's Chris Rebernik fired a shot past Cottonmouth's goalie Chad Rycroft to put the score 5-3. The Cottonmouth's Daryl Moor put his team within one goal at the 18:25 mark of the final period, but the Cyclones managed to hold on to the win in regulation. Final score, 4-5.
The Cyclones will travel to Jacksonville on Saturday to face the Barracudas, before returning home on Sunday for their final home game of the season. Game time is set for 4:10PM on Sunday.
