Twin City Cyclones News Release
The Pee Dee Cyclones were hoping to hand the Fayetteville FireAntz a loss tonight in Florence, South Carolina to keep playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately, the FireAntz offensive fury proved to be too much for the Cyclones to handle.
The FireAntz struck early in the first with two goals coming within the first ten minutes of the period. Pee Dee managed to get on the boards with a goal from Edan Welch at the 11:52 mark to put the score 2-1 going into the second.
The second period belonged to Fayetteville, scoring five unanswered goals. Pee Dee Head Coach, Chris Crombie, made the decision to pull goalie Leni Di Costanzo for Brad Buss after the fifth goal by the FireAntz. The score going into the final stanza stood at 7-1.
The FireAntz kept the Cyclones off the board for the third, but added another goal to their total with a shot from Adam Meyer. Final score, 8-1.
The Cyclones will travel north to Richmond tomorrow night to face the Renegades. Pee Dee will return to home ice on March 15th to host the Columbus Cottonmouths.
