Coming off the Cyclones best week since early November, winning two of three games, the Pee Dee Six face a very busy week of action with three games at the Florence Civic Center (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) and a road game to Huntsville on Saturday. The Cyclones are in sixth place in the SPHL with a record of 14-22-4. Pee Dee plays Jacksonville on Tuesday night at the Florence Civic Center in an important game with playoff importance. Pee Dee heads into Tuesday's game with a six point lead over the Barracudas for the sixth, and final, playoff spot. A win on Tuesday would increase that lead to eight points.
Upcoming games & promotions: Tuesday, February 14th vs. Jacksonville Barracudas (7:35PM @ Florence Civic Center). It's the seventh meeting of the year with Jacksonville with Pee Dee leading the season series 3-1-2 following last Thursday's big 9-4 win which featured four goals from the Cyclones Joel Petkoff. Promotion: "Ladies Night" with the first 500 ladies in attendance receiving a free Valentines Day rose from Mary's Flower's & Gifts. Tuesday's game also features the debut of our new $5.00 weekday General Admission ticket (for Tuesday & Thursday games).
Thursday, February 16th vs. Fayetteville FireAntz (7:35PM @ Florence Civic Center). The eleventh meeting of the year with the Fire Antz in the "Press Box I-95 Challenge Cup" series. Pee Dee defeated Fayetteville last Saturday night 6-3 led by a hat trick from Geoff Rollins. Promotion: "Student & Military Night". Anyone showing either a valid student or military I.D. can purchase a ticket for only $5.00 and the Cyclones have instituted a $5.00 General Admission ticket for Thursday night games also. Also: "Thirsty Thursday" with $2.00 draft beer and $1.00 soft drink specials.
Friday, February 17th vs. Florida Seals (7:35PM @ Florence Civic Center). The sixth meeting of the year vs. the Kissimmee, Florida based Seals. The season series currently stands at 2wins-2 losses-1 overtime loss. Promotion: "Church Night" with a post-game concert featuring contemporary Christian group Room 2.22. Also: Friday's game features our $7.00 weekend General Admission ticket.
Saturday, February 18th @ Huntsville Havoc (8:35PM Eastern / Von Braun Center). The seventh meeting of the year against the Havoc. The season series is currently tied at three wins for each team. Follow the action @ www.pointstreak.com .
Cyclones and the SPHL Playoffs If the SPHL regular season ended today, the Cyclones would be in sixth place and qualify for the sixth and final playoff spot. As of right now, they would play the first place Knoxville Ice Bears in a best of five series that would start sometime during the week of March 20th. According to reports in the February 9th edition of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, due to an arena conflict with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, Knoxville will not have home ice availability for the first round of the SPHL playoffs.
Cyclones Player Notes:
Forward Edan Welch continues to lead the team in scoring with 27 goals & 23 assists for 50 points in 40 games. Welch is seventh, overall, in the SPHL in scoring. Forward Trevor Karasiewicz leads in assists with 28 in 32 games. Forward Chris Murphy leads in penalty minutes with 192 in 38 games.
Only Edan Welch & Jean-Francois Picard have appeared in all forty of the Cyclones games this season.
Cyclones Appearances: Join Cyclones Head Coach Mark Richards, new Owner Bob Kerzner, and selected players every Tuesday night at 7:30PM at the Phoenix Bar & Grill in the Thunderbird Hotel on Highway 52 and I-95 for the Cyclones Radio Show on 100.1 FM "The Fan" as a part of the weekly "Press Box PM" radio program with host Emerson "E-Daddy" Phillips. NOTE: Because of Tuesday night's home game, there will be no Cyclones segment this week at the Phoenix Bar & Grill.
