Denver Cutthroats News Release
Denver - The Denver Cutthroats faced the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 18 for the team's opening night of their second season. The Cutthroats defeated the Oilers 4-1 to claim the first win of the team's 2013-14 season.
The game heated up with the first fight of the season as Cutthroats J.P. Chabot mixed it up with the Oilers Craig Cescon. Not long after, another brawl broke out on the ice between Denver's Cam Reid and Tulsa's Andrew Himelson. With two minutes to go in the opening period, Denver's Troy Schwab (Michael Trebish) netted the first goal of the Cutthroats second season.
Heading into the second period, the Cutthroats led1-0. Garett Bembridge sent the puck flying past Tulsa's Shane Madolora with assists from Schwab and A.J. Gale. Bembridge joins the Cutthroats for his first season on the ice, taking over for Brad Smyth on Denver's top line. Smyth now stands behind the bench as Assistant Coach this season for the Cutthroats.
With a breakaway, shorthanded unassisted goal, Matt Glasser put the Cutthroats up 3-0 over the Oilers. The Oilers then made their first goal of the season, as Todd Robinson (Thomas Beauregard and Ryan Menei) sent the puck past Denver's Kieran Millan. With six minutes left in the third period, Vincent Arseneau (T.J. Fox) scored the final goal of the game to close out the night 4-1 Denver.
The Denver Cutthroats will face the Tulsa Oilers for the second match-up in the two-game series tomorrow night. The puck drops at 6:00 PM Saturday, October 19 at the Denver Coliseum.
