Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Crosscutters opened their final road trip of the season with an 8-5 victory in Mahoning Valley Wednesday night.
Williamsport broke out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning with 1B Jim Murphy's 2-run homer and an RBI by 3B Cody Overbeck. The lead would be short-lived though as the Scrappers would plate five 1st inning runs off Cutters starter Jacob Diekman.
Diekman would hold Mahoning Valley scoreless over the next three innings. Jordan Ellis (3-0) earned the victory tossing three innings of no hit ball followed by Michael Schwimer who picked up his 8th save of the year while working a scoreless 8th and 9th inning.
While Cutters pitchers were holding down the Scrappers the Cutters staged their come-from-behind win aided by five Mahoning Valley errors. RF Doug Morales was 4-for-5 in the game.
Despite the victory, Williamsport was officially eliminated from the playoff picture.
The Cutters battle Mahoning Valley again Thursday with RHP Justin De Fratus taking the mound for Williamsport. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio Williamsport (104.1FM & 1050AM).
