Macon Mayhem News Release

Veteran defenseman Curtis Megginson has committed to attend the Macon Mayhem's inaugural training camp, leading to the team's first season starting in October.

Coach Kevin Kerr is glad to have a player of Megginson's caliber sign on with the Mayhem.

"He's a veteran who player knows this league and that will be a huge help for our younger guys coming in," Kerr said. "He's a smart player and is very steady in his own zone." Kerr made the announcement Tuesday evening at Buffalo Wild Wings in Macon.

The 26-year old Megginson played three seasons for the Augusta RiverHawks (the franchise that has transferred to Macon) from 2010-2013. He has also played for the Bloomington Thunder and the Huntsville Havoc.

Not only is he familiar with the franchise, but Megginson, hails from North Bay, Ontario, the same hometown as Kerr.

"It helps to know about him," Megginson said. "It's going to be fun to get things going in Macon. I've heard they have great fans and a good booster club. I know they want hockey back and that is a good atmosphere to be in."

Megginson, a right handed shot, stands 6-foot and weighs 209 pounds. In his five seasons in the Southern Professional Hockey League Megginson has appeared in 243 games, scoring 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points. He has 115 career penalty minutes. He has one assist and eight penalty minutes in 12 SPHL playoff games.

The Mayhem begins play in the SPHL on October 23rd at the Centreplex.
