Snohomish County Explosion News Release
From of a town of 44 people Ryan Cunningham, the new voice of the Explosion, thinks two cars passing at the same time is a traffic jam. Everett and Snohomish County will be a significant change for the man who has been no further west than Helena Montana. Last Friday Cunningham's life was changed when he won the contest for the Explosion play by play announcer.
"I currently make my home in Luverne, ND, about 25 miles north of Valley City. Luverne has a full-time population of 44 people. Three cars in one week, and the radio stations start broadcasting reports," said Cunningham. "From what I've researched, I am in for one amazing culture shock, but it's something I look forward to," he added.
Cunningham began radio broadcasting in 1993 in Valley City, ND. He won the North Dakota State Radio Broadcasting Championship in 1994. In 2000, he moved to Cleveland, MS to be the voice of the Delta State University (NCAA-2). In 2001, Cunningham returned home to be the voice of Valley City State University when his mentor in sportscasting, Dave O'Bannon, died after a long battle with cancer. Outside of radio, Cunningham enjoys umpiring baseball and softball, fishing and traveling. He also does guest lectures for historical societies specializing in the Civil War and local tourism.
Cunningham will be on site and ready to start the season with the Explosion at its inaugural season opener on the road in Lewis County.
The first home game will be April 10th versus the Vancouver Volcanoes at 7pm at the Everett Events Center. For season ticket information go to www.everettexplosion.com or call the team store at 425-339-2255. Single game tickets can be purchased at the Everett Events Center.
