Iowa Cubs News Release
Round Rock, TX - Brooks Raley allowed one unearned run on two hits over seven innings to lead the Iowa Cubs (31-42) to a 4-1 win over the Round Rock Express (32-41) at Dell Diamond tonight. The win snapped the Cubs' seven-game road losing streak and evened this series at a game apiece. The season series is tied 5-5.
Raley (3-2) matched his season-high for innings pitched and strikeouts, fanning seven in the game. The Express' only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Joey Butler led off with a double and reached third when Raley fielded a comebacker off the bat of Mike Bianucci and threw wide to third for an error. After a foulout, Dusty Brown drove in Butler with a sacrifice fly to left. Butler had both of the Express' hits off Raley in the game.
The Cubs scored first when Ty Wright led off the bottom of the third inning with a homer off Express starter Neil Ramirez (6-8). It was Wright's fifth home run of the season. The Cubs scored three runs and chased Ramirez from the game in the seventh inning. With one out, Ramirez walked Blake DeWitt and hit Welington Castillo with a pitch. After a strikeout, the Express brought in Willie Eyre to replace Ramirez. Eyre threw a wild pitch and then walked Wright to load the bases. Blake Lalli drove in two with a base hit and Matt Tolbert added an RBI single to close the rally.
Michael Bowden allowed a hit and struck out one in the bottom of the eighth to set up Rafael Dolis for the save opportunity in the ninth. Dolis allowed a leadoff single to Ryan Spillborghs, but struck out the next two batters and finished the game to earn his second save with Iowa this season.
The Cubs and Express continue this series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Dell Diamond. RH Frankie De La Cruz (1-1, 2.58) will start for the Cubs against LH Martin Perez (4-5, 4.90) for the Express. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
