
CT Tigers Swept in Doubleheader at Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Md. - Dayton Dugas tallied the lone RBI for the Connecticut Tigers (28-40) on the final play of the night as the Aberdeen IronBirds (36-34) completed a doubleheader sweep with a pair of 6-1 victories on Wednesday night at Ripken Stadium.
Trailing 6-0 in Game 2, Dugas lifted a double to left field that scored Cam Warner from third base, but Dugas was thrown out at third base on the play to end the game in the top of the seventh inning. The Tigers picked up a hit in each of the first three innings but failed to plate any runs. Alexis Garcia finished as the lone Tiger with multiple hits during a 2-for-3 performance.
Tigers reliever Juan Aguilera pitched 3 1/3 innings in Game 2 without surrendering an earned run after he replaced starter Alfredo Silva (Loss, 0-2) in the third inning. The IronBirds scored five runs in the third. J.C. Escarra drove in the first two runs of the inning on a double as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Game 2. The IronBirds brought 11 batters to the plate during the frame.
Aberdeen starter Kevin Magee (Win, 3-1) lasted five innings and gave up no runs on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts. The St. John's University product now boasts a 0.84 ERA in 32 innings this season.
In Game 1, Tigers starter Carlos Guzman (Loss, 3-4) went five innings and allowed five runs. The 20-year-old righty from Venezuela recorded all five of his strikeouts in a row during the third and fourth innings.
Connecticut center fielder Parker Meadows scored the only run for Connecticut in the opening game on an errant throw from the IronBirds while trying to turn a double play in the fourth frame. The 2018 second-round draft pick from Loganville, Georgia finished 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Tigers stranded runners on base in five of seven innings.
On Thursday, the Tigers and IronBirds play another doubleheader beginning at 5:35 p.m. with Connecticut righty Stevie Ledesma (0-2, 12.00) scheduled to start Game 1 and a Game 2 starter to be announced.
