Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, Ct. - Eric De La Rosa snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak for the Connecticut Tigers (25-35) with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the ninth inning during a 5-1 loss on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium that gave the Hudson Valley Renegades (37-26) a three-game road sweep.
The Renegades scored twice in the first inning against Tigers righty Gio Arriera (Loss, 2-4) including a leadoff home run by Hudson Valley center fielder Michael Smith. Arriera rebounded with four scoreless frames to finish off his five-inning start with one earned run, three hits, five walks, and four strikeouts. Hudson Valley added two more earned runs against Tigers reliever Dylan Stock to take a 5-0 lead in the seventh before Yaya Chentouf pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Connecticut finished with three hits for the second straight game. Renegades starter Joe Ryan (Win, 2-1) struck out seven Tigers with two hits allowed in five innings. Jeremiah Burks tallied the only extra-base hit with a one-out double in the ninth and moved to third on a wild pitch. De La Rosa scored Burks with a run-scoring groundout to avoid the first back-to-back shutouts for Connecticut in 2018.
Hudson Valley finished 8-1 against Connecticut this season as the Tigers lost their fifth game in a row and fell 9 1/2 games behind the first-place Tri-City ValleyCats in the Stedler Division with 13 games remaining.
On Thursday, the Tigers hit the road for the first of three games against the Brooklyn Cyclones at Coney Island with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Carlos Guzman (3-3, 3.13) draws the start for Connecticut following his six-inning, no-hit performance at Tri-City on August 16. Game coverage on the Norwich Courtyard by Marriott Connecticut Tigers Radio Network begins at 6:50 p.m. with Kevin Gehl on WICH 1310 AM and online at CTTigers.com.
