CT Gets First Back-To-Back Wins of the Season

Norwich, CT - Chavez Fernander (Win, 2-1) pitched six scoreless innings for the Connecticut Tigers (6-9) to pick up a 3-1 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades (6-9). This was a career-high in innings pitched for Fernander in his pro career to go along with a career-high nine strikeouts.

The Tigers got the scoring started in the first inning when Corey Joyce brought home a run on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0. This is Joyce's third RBI in the last two games.

Connecticut made it 2-0 when Jordan Verdon hit an RBI-single off of Edisson Gonzalez (Loss, 0-2). Verdon now leads the team in RBIs with eight on the season.

Gonzalez pitched five innings giving up two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. The two starting pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts to no walks in the contest.

Eric De La Rosa added to the lead in the fifth inning scoring on a throwing error by the catcher Jordyn Muffley to make it 3-0. De La Rosa stole both second and third base prior to coming home on the errand throw. He finished the game 1-for-1 with a triple, hit-by-pitch and two walks.

Carlos Vargas homered in the top half of the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 3-1. This was Hudson Valley's only hit from the seventh inning to the end of the game. Andrew Magno (Save, 1) got his first career save pitching the final frame for Connecticut.

The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow looking to sweep the series against Hudson Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Jack O'Loughlin (1-1, 3.00) will be on the mound for Connecticut.
