Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
Troy, NY - Marco Jimenez (Win, 2-1) pitched a career high five innings and the Connecticut Tigers (18-23) defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats (16-24) by a final score of 9-2. With the win, the Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak.
After a scoreless first, the Tigers opened up the scoring in the second with a run on a throwing error by the ValleyCats. Jake Holton came in to score one of his three runs in the game to make it 1-0.
Ryan Kreidler got the third inning started with a lead-off double off of Hunter Brown (Loss, 0-1). Riley Greene followed Kreidler with an infield single to put runners at first and third with no outs. Kreidler came in to score on a wild pitch from Brown to push the lead to 2-0.
After back-to-back walks from Holton and Kona Quiggle, Eliezer Alfonzo drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Jordan Verdon delivered his team-leading 14th RBI on a double to make it 4-0. Quiggle added to the lead on a wild pitch, and Andrew Navigato hit a sacrifice fly to push across the final run in the inning.
After Jimenez fired a scoreless third, the Tigers added to their lead in the top of the fourth. Alfonzo scored Holton on an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-0. Alfonzo finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In the fifth, Kreidler came all the way around on one swing of the bat. After Avery Tuck tripled, he scored on a triple and error that allowed Kreidler to score on the same play to push the lead to 9-0.
CJ Stubbs and AJ Lee hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth as the only runs of the contest for Tri-City. These were the only two hits given up by Jimenez in his start for the Tigers.
The Tigers pitching staff did not surrender a run through the final four innings of the contest. Austin Bergner, Andrew Magno and Raul De Los Reyes combined to pitch the scoreless frames for Connecticut.
