Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
July 9th 2009 - Baltimore, MD - Crystal Palace Baltimore face the Harrisburg City Islanders at UMBC Stadium tomorrow, Friday, July 10 at 7:30pm. Palace will be looking to avenge last week's defeat at Harrisburg and kick-start the final stretch of their topsy-turvy season. Harrisburg are coming off a creditable loss Tuesday night at the hands of DC United in the Quarterfinals of the US Open Cup.
Palace currently sit in fifth place in the league standings, eight points behind Harrisburg who occupy top spot. The top five teams at the end of the season qualify for the playoffs. Palace have lost five of their last six outings and have only five games remaining to secure a post-season berth.
Crystal Palace Baltimore Co-Manager Pete Medd is fully aware of his club's situation, needing to win most, if not all of their remaining fixtures. But he still feels his team have the ability to come through: "We're on a run of really bad luck, with phantom opening goals for our opponents in our last two matches. The game up in Harrisburg was very evenly played and they're a very good team. Things just didn't go our way on the night."
Once again, there are no new injuries to report, but one or two significant changes to the starting lineup are anticipated. Palace captain and top scorer Val Teixeira is unavailable for selection due to suspension after accumulating five yellow cards.
The Baltimore team take a short break from league action after the clash with Harrisburg, welcoming their sister club from London - Crystal Palace UK - for an exhibition match at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland at 8:00pm on Monday July 13. The City Islanders host the Palace UK side for the second exhibition game of the British club's US tour on July 16 at 7:05pm at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Tickets are currently still available for all remaining Palace Baltimore home fixtures, including the Palace UK match, either online at http://www.crystalpalaceusa.com/ or by calling 410.933.TEAM(8326).
